Air Hogs Remote Controlled Helix X4 Stunt Quadcopter 2.4GHz Review
The Helix X4 Stunt Quadcopter is easier to fly than most remote control helicopters. This makes it an excellent choice for anyone who gets frustrated with how diffcult it can be to keep a regular RC helicopter in the air. All the same, it’s not designed for little kids. It’s aimed at teens and adults with a recommended age range of 12 years old and over.
It’s not a regular remote control helicopter, as you can see from the pictures. It’s been specially designed to practice stunts and aeronautic feats.
The four-way controller controls each of the four rotors separately. This is how you get to perform stunts. There is a little bit of a learning curve with that but the instructions are good.
Be aware however that it doesn’t fly well in heavy or gusting winds. It’s best flown on calm days or even in the house or garage.
The package of this toy weighs around 5lbs and it needs 8 standard AA batteries to power it. Batteries are not included. Charge time is around 20 minutes for around 6-7 minutes of flying time. Just keep in mind that the further the user is, the more battery juice will be used by this toy, so you’ll probably want to keep extra batteries with you to keep the entertainment going.
It has 4 rotors with a special gyroscope which will react to the remote control, allowing this toy to perform various kinds of aeronautical tricks and stunts. The unit can be charged by using either the remote control or the USB cable.
The rotors are reasonably well protected from damage although it’s best to avoid crashing into objects at high speed. Hovering is dependable with the built-in accelerometer and there are 3 stunts built-in at the click of one button which are the 180 degree flip, barrel roll and the back-flip.
Anyone who is familiar with the Air Hogs RC products will be very happy in finding that the Helix X4 Stunt 2.4Ghz Quad Copter has easier control and more responsiveness compared to the older models. All in all, this is a good choice of toy that can provide a lot of active fun for older kids and teens.
