MiP Balancing Robot Review
Owning your own robot is no longer just the stuff of science fiction. For some time now, robots have been available as toys, although the technology hasn’t advanced to the point where their actions could encompass serving our every need, like in some science fiction movies.
However, the WowWee MiP robot comes very close to reaching that ideal and it does so in a fun way. Although he’s only 8 in. all, it can accomplish a lot of things, like stacking things on its tray, has a personality, and can even dance, or more correctly, gyrate on its wheels as though it were dancing.
The MiP personal robot can be controlled by either hand gestures, or a smart phone, so there’s no remote control for you to lose. Apps can be downloaded from the Apple Store, or Google Play and it will work with both Apple and Android (check http://www.wowwee.com/mip/compatibility for a list of compatible smart device models).
Even without a smart phone, you can have a lot of fun with your WowWee robot. The motion sensor technology built into the MiP balancing robot allows you to control the robot with the movement of your hands. However, there is a range limit for receiving the hand signals, so you need to stay within a few feet for them to work. And as far as his personality goes, you can alter his responses so that they are either positive or negative. This way, if you do something to make him angry, he’ll be able to let you know.
The MiP robot toy doesn’t really talk, at least not like humans, but he does make audible sounds that will get your attention. He will even be able to sense obstacles in his path and go around them, while hand signals allows you to access seven modes of play programmed into his memory, including dancing, roaming, stacking, tricks, and cage. Using a smart phone or tablet to control the MiP robot gives you even more game options.
The WowWee MiP robot comes complete with tray, sticker sheet, stand and operator’s manual. It’s powered by 4 AAA batteries, which are not included, but be careful operating it on carpeted floors, as that tends to shorten battery life.
Naturally, bare, or tiled, floors are better, but make sure they are cleaned, as pet and human hair can get tangled in the wheels and hamper operation. Or, you could always operate the MiP balancing robot on a table top.
Final, the MiP robot is a fun gift for the whole family to enjoy and, for this level of technology, it is amazingly affordable. With its own unique personality, and its ability to interpret hand signals, it is sure to bring joy to your family for years to come.
