Why Kids Love the Razor Pocket Mod Electric Scooter
The word ‘scooter’ for kids usually brings up images of one foot pushing along while the child balances on the other leg on a narrow metal platform. But if that’s what you thought the Pocket Mod scooter would be, you’re in for a big surprise.
This is an electric scooter that looks just like a Vespa or other European style road scooter – it’s just a little smaller. Kids sit on it and ride along at speeds of up to 15 mph, which is pretty quick for a kids’ vehicle – faster than a child could run. It certainly looks like it’s going at quite a speed when you see it riding along the sidewalk out front!
The styling is gorgeous and it comes in a range of colors. It makes a great scooter for girls but there are also colors that boys will feel fine about riding. Following the colors down our photo, they are: Hello Kitty (pink), Vapor (back), Hot Mod (red), Betty (purple), Sweet Pea (pink).
There are many of the same features that an adult’s motorized scooter would have, like a kickstand for keeping it upright, pneumatic tires and a storage compartment under the seat where you might want to keep some of the recommended safety gear like knee pads. The seat is big enough to take a passenger.
Of course you do need to think about safety. The pocket mod scooter is recommended by the manufacturer for kids aged 12 and over. In terms of size, it’s fine for a younger child and would even be a little small for a taller 13 or 14-year-old. The boy on the scooter in the photo at the top of the page is 9 years old.
We figure a lot of kids in the 8-11 age range would love it. But with the speed that it goes and the fact of only having two wheels, the makers probably hesitate to recommend it for kids that young. When you think how some kids are fine riding bicycles at speed on the roads, you might figure it’s okay. But that is a decision for you to make. You should also check the laws for where you live to find out what age kids are allowed to ride powered scooters on or off the road.
Kids should wear a safety helmet when they are riding this, as well as knee and elbow pads. These items are not supplied and you’ll need to order them separately if your child doesn’t already have them for bike riding or other activities.
The bottom line is that this a fantastic item, guaranteed to put a massive smile on any kid’s face. If you’re looking for the best electric scooter for kids, we can definitely recommend the Razor Pocket Mod.
What We’d Like To See Improved
When the first model of this scooter was released 4 years ago, some customers had issues with the battery. Razor seem to have fixed those teething problems now.
This is a great piece of kit and it’s hard to see much that could be improved. Of course there is a pretty high price tag and some families won’t be able to afford it. We guess there’s not much that can be done about this: it’s a reasonable price when you consider what you are getting.
The Razor Pocket Mod Miniature Euro Electric Scooter is a real winner that compares well with ride-on vehicles and good quality bikes. It gives kids the feeling that they’re riding a real scooter.
The scaled-down classic Vespa-type styling is very cool and the potential for long-lasting fun make this probably the best electric scooter for kids that you could get.
