Step2 Sand and Water Table Review

Sand Water Table verticalThe Step2 Naturally Playful Sand and Water Center is an outdoor toy that kids love. Divided into two sides, one for sand and one for water, it offers them opportunities for the messy and creative play that they love. They can build in the sand and splash the water.

The umbrella gives protection from the sun, making it perfect for use in any yard no matter how sunny. And if it rains, you can simply put on the lid. The lid is secured with elastic straps so it won’t blow off. This means you don’t have to take out the sand every time (although you should drain the water so it doesn’t stagnate and become unhealthy).

The design is very natural looking, with greens and browns that will blend well into a backyard setting.

If you live in a cooler climate and want to store the table away for the winter, you can simply remove the legs and umbrella so it stores flat. This makes it very convenient.

The height is ideal for kids from age 2 to play at. This would be a great gift for a child’s 2nd, 3rd or 4th birthday. They’ll get years of fun out of it.

What You Need To Know

Some buyers have reported problems with the legs leaking water from the water side of the play table. But this is only an issue with a small number of the tables and customer service from Step2 is very good, so you should just contact them and get a replacement if this happens.

The only downside to the table is that kids will of course want to mix the sand and the water. A little water in the sand side doesn’t matter, you can just leave it to dry out, but if they put a lot of sand in the water side you’ll have to drain it down and wash it out. If you want to use it inside the house, it’s probably better if they just have either sand or water as in the video, not both at the same time, so it’s easier to clean up.

It doesn’t come with sand so you’ll need to pick up a bag of sand for it. You can add sand to your order if you want. One 25-pound bag is enough.

It may not seem cheap at first glance but if you compare the price with other combined sand and water tables, the Step2 Sand and Water Center is very good value.

The Verdict

This is a strong outdoor toy that will give kids many hours of fun. It’s been well designed and the sun protection is a great idea. We think it’s worth the price for the opportunities it gives kids to play together and have a great time with sand and water.
